With a proven track record in business management at a senior level, Alun was, until recently, President of the National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors for a second time.

He is keen to promote the next generation of funeral directors, having chaired the Independent Funeral Directors' College between 2005 and 2008 and through his current role as Company Secretary at the British Institute of Funeral Directors.

Alun was appointed Chief Executive of the Funeral Furnishing Manufacturers' Association (FFMA) in October 2018, where he is responsible for the day-to-day running of the organisation, including managing its finances, administering the Coffin and Casket Certification scheme and keeping members up-to-date with the association's work, to name but a few areas of focus.

In May 2019, Alun was asked to take over as Secretary of the Council of British Funeral Services which completes his hat-trick in assisting funeral organisations!
Neil Cocking
My first involvement with funerals was after my ordination in 1974. I returned to full-time teaching four years later, which meant that I was available during school holidays to conduct funeral services when many clergy were away.

Some years later, I invested funds with an independent funeral director. This led to the opening of Chelsea Funeral Directors in 1992 and as sole proprietor, I commenced working full-time in the business the following year. Later on, I represented the SAIF Executive at CBFS meetings. After many years in office, George Rose retired as the CBFS Chairman, since which time it has been my privilege to be his successor as Honorary Chairman.
